Plant of the Month Maidenhair Fern Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum pedatum) can be found in cool, moist woods sometimes in full shade.  It's lacy texture looks delicate but this fern is extremely cold hardy.  It stays attractive throughout the summer by sending up new fronds as long as steady moisture is available.  It does need protection from strong winds so that it doesn't become ragged.  It is an attractive plant to combine with any woodland flower or on its own under a shady canopy.
