Plant of the Month Bloodroot Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) is often the first woodland flower to brave the spring snows in April and send up sparkling white blooms followed by elegantly sculpted leaves.  The leaf and seed pod are the logo for the nursery.  If there is no summer drought, the leaves provide a clump of interest in the shade/woodland garden.  Seeds are produced in abundance but must be sowed immediateley without drying out.  The plants grow from a fleshy rhizome that can be divided in the early fall.
