Plant of the Month Penstemon grandiflorus Penstemon grandiflorus Penstemon grandiflorus (Large-flowered Penstemon) is native to dry prairies of the midwest.  Its showy stalk of lilac blooms stands out in any June rock garden.  Attractive gray-green leaves form a rosette and are semi-evergreen with good snow cover.  It is very hardy as long as it has good drainage in the winter.  It produces an abundance of seed that can form new flowering plants in 2 seasons.
